We make the invisible waste visible
Lumio was founded in 2021 by facility people and data engineers who had noticed the same thing: Swedish commercial buildings draw power around the clock, but the business only runs for a third of the day.
It started with a garage fan
The idea for Lumio was born in a fan room. One of the founders, then in charge of operations for a portfolio of offices, found a garage fan that had been running around the clock for years. It had never raised an alarm, never broken down and never shown up on a bill. It had only cost money, every night.
The question that wouldn’t go away: how many fans like that are there? The answer turned out to be many. In hourly data from connected buildings, an average of 12.5 percent of electricity use is pure idle running, and the pattern looks the same in hotels, care facilities, logistics halls and offices.
Today 214 buildings are connected to the platform, from single shops to portfolios with dozens of buildings. What they all have in common: the first fixes are almost always found within two weeks.
Which principles guide what we build?
Measure, don’t guess
Rules of thumb and industry averages let even the wasteful off the hook. We always start from the building’s own hourly data, never from kWh per square metre out of a table.
Fixes before reports
A report nobody acts on is waste in itself. Every alert should point to a metering point, a time and a likely cause, so the right person can fix the fault straight away.
Use what is already there
The meters are already in the building. Our job is to get them to tell you something useful, not to sell new hardware or rebuilds.
